Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for connect/disconnect reefer refrigeration unit
   • Access, interpret and apply reefer refrigeration units documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Select, and check for faults, equipment/tools for work activities
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the activity
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Plug/unplug reefer refrigeration units to power source
   • Plug reefer refrigeration unit to power source
   • Check operation of reefer refrigeration unit
   • Identify and report problems with the operation of reefer refrigeration unit
   • Unplug reefer refrigeration unit and clear cable from unit
3. Attach/detach clip on units
   • Attach/detach clip on units safely in accordance with relevant code of practice
   • Confirm connection to container or crib
   • Identify and report problems with the operations of clip on unit
4. Clean up
   • Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials
   • Clean, check, maintain and store tools and equipment

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable documentation, policies and procedures

implements requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective connection and disconnection of reefer refrigeration units including:

applying, organisation and site requirements and procedures

establishing work plans

assessing operational capability and limitation of equipment used

assessing capability and limitation of work processes selected

demonstrates completion of connecting and disconnecting reefer refrigeration units that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

planning and preparing for connect/disconnect reefer refrigeration unit

completing activity systematically with attention to detail without damage to goods, equipment or personnel

assessing need for tagging of unserviceable or damaged units

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in connecting and disconnecting reefer refrigeration units through:

applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:
